Work In Progress- Aadmi Kaam Par hai

I only wish Love was a subject in college, I would have scored pretty decent marks in it. It taught me more things about my life than any subject ever did.

In my 3rd year of college, I was on cloud nine, keeping very fit and taking part in local modelling competitions. My last relationship had ended in the second year, and with just 6 months left for my college to finish, I had to try and make a girlfriend.

Gender mix in my college was 80:30. 30 being for girls, thus every girl had at least 5 or more guys who liked her, plus a few locals of that city. It was pretty crazy, so when it came to whom I should go and talk to, I had to consider factors like if I am going to get bashed up by my batch mates or locals.

Well Amrita being so gorgeous, still had no boyfriend at that point. She was an Inspector General’s daughter and would kick your ass in front of 20 people. Some really good candidates in her group had tried and failed miserably, and the others were just afraid to ask. We had a common friend Nisha, and it was time to strategize. Amrita really looked up to her dad and looked for similar qualities in a boy. Nisha would keep telling her that I had few of them. When we had gone out and met with a bunch of friends, I finally mustered up the courage to propose. I had no clue what was in store for me.

It was time for our summer break and she was leaving for Delhi. When I got to know of this, I and my friend rushed to the bus stand with a bunch of yellow flowers and a chocolate to get a yes for a date in Delhi.

This date was like a job interview, and I swear to god it was one of the toughest interviews I’ve ever been to. She was the whole panel and had come with some 20 questions, the answers to which were critically analysed and required further explanations. What all the questions meant were, that I do not come in the way of anything she wants to do, no public display of affection, no sharing food on the same plate, etc… Well, the interview ended with a glass of wine (did not have money for two), and she became my Half Girlfriend.

Some 14 years later with some of the craziest vacations and numerous time getting my ass kicked in public and in private by her, I am proud to say that we are still in love and married for 9 years with a beautiful daughter.

Cheers to being in a half relationship kept things spicy and interesting.

Hum nahi tere hamdard na tere dost ,per yakhin ker humhari bhi dua thi tujhe tere nasib se milane mein.
